31 Day Blog Challenge: Day 9

Let’s just ignore the fact that I didn’t post yesterday and waited until bedtime to post today. I’ll tell ya why…

I had two really good days! I was having fun and taking care of myself by eating good food, drinking lots of coffee, taking naps and spending some much needed FREE time with my husband. So blogging wasn’t at the forefront of my mind this weekend.

But now I find myself taking a soothing bubble bath with my eucalyptus and spearmint body wash and writing a challenge post on my phone. Isn’t it crazy that we can use technology (carefully) from the bathtub?

This stuff is a lifesaver

Now to the point. Today’s prompt is things on your bucket list. I’ve never been good at keeping a bucket list. There really aren’t a whole lot of things I just HAVE to do before I die. Really the most important thing to me was to become a wife and to find the very best friends I could. Awww 🙂 but really. And I have accomplished those. Being a wide and being a best friend to someone(s) is the greatest gift and gives my life meaning.

If we really want to get down to the brass tax though, I can think up some things that would just be the icing on the cake. A lot of them are already in my short term/long term goal list so they aren’t exactly bucket list items as they are things that I feel would make my life more full and enjoyable.

These are in no specific order:

  1. See the Minnesota Twins play
  2. Be my own boss
  3. Travel Europe for at least a summer, fully funded
  4. Own a home with a spare bedroom
  5. Renovate a tiny vintage trailer
  6. Buy a Volvo wagon
  7. Be debt free
  8. Visit every presidential monument and/or home
  9. Run into someone famous and invite them to lunch
  10. Attend a taping of SNL
  11. Meet Ellen Degeneres
  12. Make a really popular YouTube video
  13. Sing at Carnegie hall
  14. Visit the pyramids
  15. Stay in the Mediterranean for a summer
  16. Have really long hair
  17. See Katy Perry live in concert
  18. Own a cabin in the mountains
  19. Live in a foreign country for a year
  20. Be someone’s personal stylist
  21. Build a Tiny House
  22. Meet the entire cast of Gossip Girl
  23. Meet Lauren Conrad
  24. Own a small boutique gift shop or coffee shop
  25. Learn to make craft coffee drinks
  26. Have a bedding set of strictly Anthropologie items
  27. Have lunch with Amy Poehler
  28. Go to the Jimmy Fallon show
  29. Do a ‘USA or Bust’ roadtrip
  30. Learn to garden
  31. Write a children’s book with my husband
  32. Have more pets
  33. Have zero children
  34. Visit Harry Potter Wizarding World and also the real Hogwarts.
  35. See a Broadway musical…ON Broadway. duh.
  36. Do New Years at Rockefeller Center

And yes, anything having to do with Harry Potter and Gossip Girl are essential to my life.

Why Peonie and Pine?

Hey there readers! I just wanted to give a short-ish explanation of why I chose the name “Peonie and Pine” for my new blog space.

Obviously, peonies are THE most beautiful flower of all time. (Second are Tulips, and third are daffodils.) I LOVE bright pink peonies, or peach, or white…just any really.

I didn’t really want to be super symbolic with my blog name but people do love finding meaning in the little things, so I did consider this when choosing mine. Peonies are pretty and girly and feminine and at this time in my life I am really trying to find out how to be comfortable with my girly side without feeling guilty for falling right into a stereotypical gender-norm. I can be unique and badass and still be girly and prefer the color pink over blue. But I can also love green and still be ultra-feminine. It’s all about what I like and I just so happen to really love pink peonies and forest pines.

So we’ve got the pretty part of Peonie and Pine, the next part I guess would be adding in the…masculine? I didn’t really intend on having that as the main contrast in the name but it kind of looks like that is where this post is going. Pine really just symbolizes the bitter and spiny parts of life that will most certainly make their way in here sometimes. Along with the aromatic, flowery moments in life there are always those thorns and nettles that just can’t be ignored. I’m still healing from the ones I’ve encountered and one of the best ways I’ve found to do that is through writing and being public with my story.

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t also paying homage to some notable people, places, and things with the title I chose.

My favorite song ever is Petals by The Honorary Title. Peonies come to mind when I think of this song and it just makes me feel happy and empowered and positive, even though it’s kind of a sad sounding song.
“Nothing you say can or will ever penetrate
These walls that I create
When you spew that barrage of insulting words”

Pine is a salute to the beautiful wilderness that is the Pacific Northwest. I’m from Idaho, have lots of loved ones in Oregon, and recently fell in love with Seattle and the surrounding area. I think I’ll always be happy in this part of the States.

Last but not least, THE Blair Waldorf from the best show of all time, Gossip Girl. My bridesmaids all said “We love you, Blair” in their toasts to me and it made me the happiest bride ever. I DEFINITELY had peonies in my bouquet because I needed to be like Blair.
